When did you first join Cascade?
I first joined Cascade in August 2023
How has your job changed or how have your perceptions changed, 1 year on from starting?
Since starting back in 2023 and with a year under my belt, my role of ‘Content Creator’ has taken many different forms and has expanded my skill set in lots of exciting and dynamic ways. When joining and chatting with Jo and Alan my role was defined at first as a direct support and facilitator of video production, whether that be with a camera in hand or sat at a desk using editing software, however it became apparent very quickly that the opportunity to take on responsibilities across various facets of the business was not only offered but also encouraged. This has challenged me and allowed me to grow into more areas than one within my role.
What does your job involve?
Primarily being a content creator, my main job is to produce and execute the creation of visual media that we output as a business, film, photography, graphical elements. This includes managing and booking shoots in with clients, driving around the country to film and produce content, editing and colour grading content we shoot to package and deliver, supporting the creation of media to be used at events and experiences that we produce as well as managing our kit and production equipment to make sure we’re always at the cutting edge of industry standard for film. (plus a multitude of other bits and bobs that keep us ticking and organised)
Tell us about any highlights over the past 12 months?
A highlight for me in the last 12 months would be travelling to Port De Pollenca with INEOS Grenadiers cycling team to capture their rider awards after the end of the Tour de France. This was a fantastic shoot for me as I always love the challenge and opportunity to film a unique destination and to capture it through a lens in a way that displays not just the event itself but the incredible location and setting we’d picked.
Any challenges over the past 12 months?
I’d say one of the greatest challenges for me in the last 12 months would be around managing time and production quality, I always strive to maintain a consistent level of output for any video production I’m involved in, and balancing that across several shoots and deadlines for content of various forms was a new hurdle for me. The luxury of time in previous roles allowed me to ponder more on creative decisions, however with the nature of the work here at Cascade I’ve learnt to trust my first instinct more and make creative decisions in shorter time which is no bad thing, pressure makes diamonds after all and there’s a lot to be said around overthinking creative decisions in film especially when given the time to do so!
Sum up working at Cascade in 3 words
Challenging, Fulfilling and Varied
How would you describe the culture and team at Cascade?
The culture at Cascade is the real glue around the entire output, we’re a small creatively motivated team that punch way above our weight for our size and that’s the biggest strength. I still remember arriving to film my first large scale conference and seeing the scale of what 12 months of pre production and planning looked like from such a small team, it was incredible.
Tell us something about you, that people wouldn’t know
I’m a huge music fan and DJ a monthly online radio show that showcases what I’ve been listening to within the month. Alongside this I’m a big foodie and I’m currently learning how to make Neapolitan pizza from scratch!
What’s your favourite thing about coming into work?
The family we have at Cascade is the lifeblood of all that we do and one of the most enjoyable elements of the company. Everyone brings their own personal touch and element to the day to day and it really creates a family spirit with a big heart.
What do you think the next 12 months will hold?
I expect the next 12 months to bring a busy season with a wide range of opportunity to grow the visual identity of the brand through film. With a focus on areas such as colour grading and drone filming capabilities we hope to enhance further the quality of our content.
