Friends of the Park

Following our Power of Giving blog, we decided to meet with our local volunteers from one of our chosen charities to understand the impact of our donation and learn more about the positive work they do.

In the heart of Heaton Moor, Stockport, is a park that feels like it belongs to so many of the community living there. A beautiful green space for everyone of all ages, it really is the happy place for so many of our team.

The Friends of Heaton Moor Park are a group of volunteers who are involved in the parks; management, maintenance and improvement. The current Friends group evolved from a group of local residents who formed the Heaton Moor Park Action Group in 1995 with the aim of reversing the poor condition of the park at that time. The Action group became the Friends of Heaton Moor Park in 1997 and has been thriving ever since.

Speaking with the local volunteers they told us how important it is to them, to keep the park in good health for visitors of all kinds and every donation helps them on that journey. The council only provides a 'cut and clear' service which means it's up to the Friends to do everything else. We're thrilled that our donation has helped to provide professional gardening services, buy materials for the Friends Workday and purchase bedding plants and other items around the park.

My son has grown up on this park and I hope his children will do the same one day, supporting those around us is vital to make sure our communities thrive. A huge thank you to all the work the Friends of Heaton Moor Park do.
